“The most positive aspect of my time during the IBH program was practicing the client simulations! Although it can be nerve-racking, having the opportunity to work through a realistic case scenario helps to see the different scenarios a social worker can experience. I also enjoyed learning about child maltreatment in the IBH program because it relates to situations I encounter at the children's hospital. I would recommend IBH to anyone! The advice I have for future IBH-MSW candidates is to enjoy learning the curriculum at Baylor and practice those clinical skills without fear!"

"For me, the most positive aspect of the program was skill building. The simulation, workshops, and homework not only allowed me to dive deeper into behavioral health, but allowed me to practice my skills in the setting I wanted to build my career in.”

“The IBH Certificate program was instrumental in preparing me for my career as a medical social worker. Working in the emergency department, I encounter unpredictable situations daily, requiring strong problem-solving skills and quick thinking. Through the IBH program, we frequently engaged in role-playing exercises that trained me to respond effectively in real-life scenarios. The program also equipped me with motivational interviewing techniques, a valuable approach I often apply with patients. To future cohorts, I would advise staying open to new experiences. The IBH program deepened my commitment to medical social work.”

"The monthly stipend helped me to not focus as much on work during my last year of the program. I would advise future cohorts that if they are given the opportunity to participate in this wonderful opportunity, to take advantage of the IBH Certificate program."

“The IBH class and workshops were extremely beneficial to my learning! Spending time diving deeper into behavioral health assessment tools and modalities in the classroom as well as learning from members in the community who have experience implementing these tools, made a huge difference. The hands-on learning through client simulations and support from professors set me up to not only feel prepared in a post-graduate role, but confident in my clinical skills. In my work at the Mayo Clinic, I constantly utilize the skills built in the IBH program in my daily practice, like Motivational Interviewing and implementing screening tools like the GAD-7, SBIRT, and the PHQ-9. My advice is to not be afraid to make mistakes and be open to feedback.”

“The program was helpful in providing me the skills to effectively intervene in brief sessions with clients. The Motivational Interviewing training and the guest lecture on sleep were two things that I still go back to in my work with clients. With the stipend I was able to cover my cost of living including my rent without having to work an outside job on top of classes and internship. I would advise future cohorts to trust in yourself and your ability to grow and learn. Even if you don't feel confident at the beginning, as you continue to practice and implement your skills you will progress.”
