Social Work Month Resources
We celebrate social work and social workers every day at the Garland School. It is who we are and what we do. But, the month of March is extra special for us, and for many of you, as well. March is National Social Work Month, and we will host several social media events with some giveaways for participation, an event on main campus to showcase our profession, and events on our campus to support our future social workers.

This year, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has designated the theme as "Social Work: Compassion + Action." This theme underscores the profession's dedication to empathetic engagement and proactive efforts to enhance individual and community well-being. Compassion involves understanding and empathizing with the challenges faced by individuals and communities, while action pertains to the tangible steps social workers take to address and alleviate these challenges. By combining these elements, social workers strive to create meaningful change and promote social justice. Learn more about the theme and rationale for social work month.
In 1984, the United States Government formally recognized National Social Work Month in March. It was introduced by Democratic Senators and was co-sponsored by a Republican. Ronald Regan then signed it into law, and the rest is history. National Social Work Month is a time when people can take a moment to learn about and honor the important role that social work, as well as social workers, play in our society.
“Social work is one of the most exciting professions that is growing exponentially in our economy,” said Jon E. Singletary, Ph.D., dean of the Garland School of Social Work at Baylor University.
