Opportunities and Celebrations
AAPI Month
May is recognized as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of AAPI communities in the United States. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the resilience and impact of AAPI individuals, while recognizing the ongoing work needed to advance equity and inclusion.
At the Garland School, this commitment is reflected in our continued focus on cultural awareness, equity, and community engagement. Throughout May, we will highlight AAPI voices and experiences through events, campus programming, and social media spotlights that celebrate identity, scholarship, and advocacy. We remain committed to fostering a more inclusive and informed community, not only during this month, but year-round.

Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about mental health conditions, reduce stigma, and highlight the importance of emotional well-being. It encourages open conversations about mental health and reminds us that support, understanding, and access to care are essential for individuals and communities.
At the Baylor University Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, this month reflects our commitment to preparing future social workers who are equipped to support mental health needs with compassion and skill. It is an opportunity to emphasize advocacy, education, and holistic care as key parts of promoting well-being for all.
