Many students who come to the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work do so out of a "sense of calling," a desire to make a meaningful difference in the world – one person at a time or one policy at a time.

The BSW education you receive here will empower and equip you to make that difference. We provide quality preparation for entry-level generalist social work practitioners working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. Many of our students choose to apply for advanced placement in our Master of Social Work program, completing both the BSW and the MSW in just five years.

The undergraduate degree is based on a liberal arts education. Course work includes:

  • social work methods, skills and techniques
  • theories of individual, family and community development and functioning
  • social policies, advocacy and social justice
  • research for social work practice and
  • a 480-hour internship in a community agency

The School is fully accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. Graduates are eligible for state licensure.

For more information, contact the Recruitment Office via email or at (254) 710-6411.
