Travel Scholarships
The GSSW Student Development Committee (SDC) desires to support BSW and MSW students who are presenting at or attending professional conferences (in-person or online) related to social work research and practice to support professional development. As such, we have limited scholarship funds available each year to assist with some costs related to student conference fees and/or travel.
Applications will be reviewed throughout the year, and funds will be awarded on a rolling basis until all funds have been used. Students are encouraged to apply for funds as early as possible and should allow at least 30 days for the application review process. However, students will be notified of scholarship assistance no sooner than October 18th during the fall semester and no sooner than March 1st during the spring semester. Notification of scholarship assistance will come from the Office of Academic Affairs.
Note: Students receiving scholarship support will be asked to provide a brief statement (1-2 paragraphs):
- Indicating that funds were used to support participation in the conference, and
- Describing how participation supported the student’s professional development.
These statements should be emailed to Student Development Committee member, Clay Polson (Clay_Polson@baylor.edu), and cc’d to Melody York Zuniga (Melody_Zuniga@baylor.edu) and Terry Henderson (Terry_Henderson@baylor.edu), within 30 days of attending the conference.
Scholarship funds are intended to assist students in conference participation and may not cover all costs associated with attending a conference. The maximum amount awarded to any student in a given year will be $500.
Note: When booking lodging, Baylor University recommends using traditional lodging options such as hotels rather than non-traditional options such as Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway for both safety and liability reasons.
In awarding scholarships, priority will be given to students who are presenting at conferences, either as individual presenters or as part of a collaboration with faculty or peers. However, students who are attending a professional conference and not presenting may also apply and will be considered.
To apply for scholarship funds, students should complete and submit the brief online application:
