Background

Dr. Kerry-Ann Zamore Byrd is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work at Baylor University, where she integrates academic excellence with a passion for storytelling, the arts, and community transformation. She holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California, a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland. She later earned her Doctor of Social Work (DSW), further grounding her scholarship in advanced practice, leadership, and innovation.

Previously, Dr. Zamore Byrd served as Professor of Social Work, Director of Social Work Practicum, and Director of Study Abroad at the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor, where she created global learning opportunities and mentored students in professional practice.

With more than two decades of teaching, clinical, and community practice experience, Dr. Zamore Byrd is recognized as a dynamic educator, scholar, and mentor. Her teaching and research focus on social justice, trauma-informed practice, cultural identity, and the integration of faith and mental health. She has taught and mentored students across undergraduate and graduate levels, equipping future professionals with the skills to lead, serve, and advocate.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Zamore Byrd is an accomplished playwright and award-winning filmmaker. Her original stage plays and films explore themes of resilience, healing, and empowerment, particularly within marginalized and faith-based communities. Through her creative work, she bridges social work and the arts, using narrative as a powerful tool for advocacy, education, and social change.

Dr. Zamore Byrd’s unique blend of academic leadership, teaching expertise, and artistic vision positions her as a transformative voice in both higher education and the creative arts.
