Our 10th Competency

Unique to the Garland School of Social Work, our 10th Competency guides us to engage in ethical and anti-oppressive social work practice and research that considers the role and influence of religion, spirituality and philosophical perspectives.

Values and Virtues in Action

The Garland School of Social Work seeks to produce ethical social work practitioners committed to values and virtues that promote justice and the empowerment of all people. In social work, core values from our professional Code of Ethics call us to work for justice, honor the dignity and worth of all people, and focus on underrepresented and marginalized groups.  At the same time, we recognize core virtues are at the heart of diverse religious traditions and have distinct meaning in the life of our school.
