GML Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I have to take the GRE?
No. The GRE is not a required prerequisite for applying to either the Garland School of Social Work or the GML Scholarship Program.
2. Do I have to demonstrate English-language proficiency to apply?
Yes, if you are from a non-English speaking country. For more information on the tests accepted and minimum scores required, visit this site.
3. Do I qualify for the GML Scholarship if my degree is in a different program of study?
Yes. Having a social work degree or background is not required to apply to either the Garland School of Social Work or the GML Scholarship Program. However, you need to have earned an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution. To check on the accreditation of your institution, please send a copy of your undergraduate transcript to MSW_admissions@baylor.edu, copying GlobalMissionLeader@baylor.edu.
4. What is Waco, Texas like?
Waco (including surrounding neighborhoods) is home to about 150,000 people and is a good-sized town with many restaurants, stores, and things to do. While the weather is usually mild from October to June, it is VERY hot in the summer and can be very cold in the winter. In addition, Baylor University is beautiful and there are a vast array of things to do on the main campus! The School of Social Work is located on Baylor’s downtown campus, a few miles away from the main campus.
5. Can I bring my family with me to Waco?
Although you can bring your family, we don’t recommend it. Due to the condensed nature of learning during the first year of the MSW program, it benefits our students to be able to spend all of their energy on classes, schoolwork, and internship. We also do not offer additional support, financial or administrative, to scholars whose families accompany them, so all costs related to additional visas, rent, schooling for children etc. will be the scholar’s sole responsibility.
