Hispanic Heritage Month 2023
Join the GSSW in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated all around the world from September 15 to October 15. Why does it start in the middle of the month? The starting date aligns with Independence Day for several Latin American countries. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua celebrate their Independence on September 15, which is then followed by Mexico's on September 16, and Chile and Belize's on September 18. This unique timing creates a strong start to kick off a month full of Hispanic recognition and appreciation.
With a growing population of Hispanic and Latino Americans at Baylor, this rich heritage is beautifully present on our campus. The University recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month and the theme Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America. Through special events and activities designed to provide more depth in appreciation of others, our community is strengthened by celebrations of our diversity.
Hispanic Student Association
The Hispanic Student Association at Baylor University was founded in 1987. The organization maintains an integral role on campus as it promotes diversity, inclusivity, and collaboration, and educates the community about Hispanic culture, heritage, and traditions
Mission Statement: To foster an enriching experience of the Hispanic culture, heritage, and traditions in the Baylor and Waco communities while empowering and supporting students with their personal development, and advocating for a diverse and inclusive environment.
