Why did you choose Baylor?
- I chose Baylor because I felt God calling me in both the direction of ministry and theological education as well as to social work and Baylor allowed me to pursue both
What is a cause you are passionate about?
- I am really passionate about reintegration for individuals reentering the community from incarceration. During my foundation field placement, I worked at a transitional halfway house and met some of the most remarkable, strong, and intelligent women and men of my life who were using every resource and tool they could to lead a peaceful and meaningful life post-incarceration. Specifically, how are congregations interacting with people reintegrating into our communities, and how can we as a society celebrate and come alongside these men and women who are hoping to move on with their life. How does the church practice grace, mercy, reconciliation, and loving-kindness with this population?
How does an MSW professional degree fit into your life plan?
- My dream, and what I believe God has called me to, is to maximize the Church’s potential for social change in communities through holistic ministry. I believe this degree has taught me how to process practice through a social work lens and be able to translate it back into the language of congregations.
What is a piece of advice you would give a prospective student?
- My advice to prospective students is to be fully present in your classes, with your colleagues, and in your field placement. I know there will be a lot of tasks, assignments, and requirements floating around in your head, but practice being present with your clients and classmates because they will teach you more than you can ever imagine
