Jim Heston

Background
Jim supports the Garland School in areas related to technology, instructional design, and building operations. He provides consultation for instructional innovation, course creation and iteration, research interests, office productivity, and technology implementation, trouble-shooting, security, inventory, and purchasing. He manages space planning and utilization, renovation, reservation, maintenance, technology infrastructure, and safety/security throughout the 811 Washington building. He also assists the school’s admin team in the analysis of data for program evaluation.
Jim graduated with an English degree from Baylor with a post-baccalaureate in Education and a masters degree in educational administration from Tarleton University. Working as an 8th grade English teacher, an instructional specialist, and an assistant principal in Waco ISD, Jim helped students design a microgravity centrifuge and got to fly it on the Vomit Comet, NASA’s astronaut trainer, was a KWTX Golden Apple Award winner, was WISD’s Teacher of Year, was finalist for the Alan Shard Educator Award, and was the National Middle School Association’s Distinguished Educator.
At Baylor, Jim has designed and taught online classes, participated in conferences and university task forces, served as the school’s Academic Technology Director, conducted trainings, created artwork for the school, chaired several school committees, and received Baylor’s Outstanding Staff Award.
