Justin Sciarini
- C3I Doctoral Research Fellow
Justin Sciarini is currently a mental health therapist at the Counseling and Psychological Services Center at Weber State University. He earned his Master of Social Work as part of Weber State’s inaugural MSW cohort. His clinical work centers on supporting students through individual and group therapy, with a focus on identity development, religious and spiritual transitions, and trauma-informed care. He currently facilitates the LGBTQIA+ Support Group and the Religious/Spiritual Processing Group on campus.
Justin’s current research explores religious transitions and identity development, both within and outside of religious communities. His earlier work focused on individuals who had left the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), examining how their values evolved during and after disaffiliation. His future research will continue to investigate the intersection of religious and social identity, how the development of one impacts the other, and what these dynamics mean for both individuals and their broader communities. He is a member of the LGBTQ-Affirmative Psychotherapists Guild of Utah and the Mormon Mental Health Association.
